(December 29, 2002)I’m Dennis Finnan, host and speaker on the World, the Word & You! Broadcast and in a moment we’ll talk about what the Bible says about THE AGE OF MAN… …Today there are two schools of knowledge and education that tell us about the origins of life on this planet. One is the “Evolutionary view,” and the other is the “Creationist’s view.” Amazingly enough, each year these two quite opposing views hotly contend with each other. Of course, now that we’ve turned our society into a “secular or godless one, the Creationist view of life’s origins, is virtually banned from the public arena of thought and speech for great fear on the part of those who teach evolution. But today as this is the last broadcast of the year 2002, I’d like to revisit this age old controversy with some good news and truths you can take hold of, and experience afresh what joy it can bring to those who come to know and appreciate what it all means. So after one more pause for some good seasonal music, I’ll return with fresh information and truths about where we came from and how old we as a race of beings truly are in light of time itself. I’ll be right back, so don’t go away… …According to the latest evolutionary theories of those who deny the existence of God and more reject His revelation the Bible, they tell us our universe is 12 to 15 billion years old! From that moment, often called the “Big Bang” explosion, random processes produced everything in existence today, including mankind. Well according to evolutionary scientism the human race is about 6 million years old. This is relatively young compared to their estimated age of the universe. However, according to God’s Word the Bible, this is a gross error. Let’s review and revisit ancient man and find out what we can about our past so we can better know what’s ahead as a New Year awaits us in just a few days on the calendar. To begin, I quote for you from the Bible how all things came into being,
With great simplicity and yet dramatic truth, God’s revelation to mankind tells us that everything, from the universe to all life on this planet, came into being in six successive solar days. Now that is in absolute contrast to the teachings of evolutionists who deny not only a “created” universe; but more, the time element the Bible shares with us. You see, not only did God create all things in the beginning of time, but He also started time from that moment and the clock has been ticking since. But just how long has it been ticking, and how old is man? Well the Bible gives us a clue as does the existence of our world and universe. For instance, although the evolutionists’ extrapolate from their reasoning that mankind is about 6 million years old, if the truth be willingly known, much evidence and teaching leads us to believe than the universe, our planet earth and everything existing on it is no more than 10,000 years old! What you say? Impossible! Really? Let me ask you some questions and think of your answers. When examining all historical evidence, do we find ancient man IGNORANT primitive and cave like or complex and even more brilliant than we are today? Remember, I’m talking about intrinsic brilliance, not technologically enhanced brilliance. Well, the answer is ancient man appears to have been more brilliant than we are today. As we probe history we discover ancient relics which show evidence of high degrees of culture and technology. For instance what about the Great Pyramids of Egypt, the Megaliths of Stonehenge, England, the exquisite cities of ancient Babylon and Teotihuacán in Mexico. Then there is the ancient knowledge of mathematics and astronomy found in the Mayan center of Yucatan, Mexico. Now when examining this ancient history of man’s endeavors, do we find an evolutionary rise or demise? The answer is the latter. These cities of the ancients display unbelievable ingenuity displaying tremendous creativity, and genius far beyond much of our abilities today. So much so that we call them “mysteries,” for we are unable to understand how they accomplished so much that we cannot even do to this day. That certainly doesn’t speak of man evolving through the centuries, rather the opposite. Evolutionists acknowledge this tremendous brilliance and say extraterrestrial visitors enabled them to build these cities. Let me ask you another question. Is the Golden Age of CIVILIZATION yet to come? The answer from history is it came and went! Just think about the great accomplishments of human civilization, and ask: “when was the Golden Age of our major cultural centers?” The answer is for ancient Greece it was in Athens about 500 B.C.; in Mesopotamia it was centered in Babylon in 500 B.C.; in Mexico, the Mayan centers experienced it from 500 B.C. to 500 A.D.; How about Italy? Well, their Golden Age appears to have been from 200 B.C. to 200 A.D.; Then there is Egypt’s Golden Age in the dynasties of the Pharaohs about 1500 B.C. and of course China’s Golden Age was centered in the Dynasties of its Emperors before the time of Christ. What do we note in common about ancient man? The answer is obvious – ALL GOLDEN AGES ARE PAST! The heights of cultural achievement are long gone. So, the overwhelming question we must ask is, “If man ascended from brutish animals, history would show we gradually evolved into a more complex and higher being of life. Yet history shows the exact opposite! No one recognized this more uniquely than King David almost 3000 years ago when he wrote by divine inspiration,
Why even Job told us to examine the past and see man’s dwindling greatness,
But our questions must continue. Now, if man is 6 millions years old, then certain things would have to be seen today which are not. For instance,
“If man is on the earth for millions of years, why is population explosion
only a recent problem?” Well let’s look at what population studies
reveal about the age of man. The fact stands out that the average families
of the earth have 3.6 children with an annual population increase of 2%.
These are conservative figures mind you. If so, figuring back millions of
years, the present population would have developed from a single family in
just 4000 years. But let’s be ultra conservative and reduce the average
family increase from 2% to just a .5% and figure from a mere million years
rather than the six million which evolutionists claim. Why the resultant
population of the earth today would have to be the number 10 with 2,100
zeros after it! Such a population would literally fill the entire
universe! Yes my friend, as we enter a new year we would all do well to consider the “facts,” history and good science” reveals about ancient man and realize that if man is no more than 10,000 years old, let alone the universe, then we can only be here by a divine act of CREATION! But, that is what the Bible says. God created all things in the beginning and He obviously created it all in complete mature and working order. That required Him to make everything functional and with age. Adam and Eve were created as adults, having the appearance of age. God created trees and plants with age to immediately bear seed and fruit. God created the sun, moon and the stars to bear light immediately although it would take millions of years normally for light to travel from distant stars to be seen on earth by man. Is it so hard to imagine an immense being called God who is omnipotent to create all these things with age? The answer is not can we believe, but do we want to believe. The Bible tells us that all mankind today is on the way down, not up. History confirms this, geology affirms this, archaeology testifies to this, and of course medical science concurs. Why? The answer is sin. Our first family, Adam and Eve were made in the image of God; that’s where our brilliance and abilities above all other created life shows the divine aspect of our existence. Yet the Bible tells us, God placed man on the earth to be His love creature. God gave us a will to love Him or reject Him. Sadly mankind rejected God, but in so doing lost the link and lifeline to continued greatness. We have since slipped and are still falling away from God and His image. The Bible says,
The history of man is surely revealed in these verses. Our ascent has not been reality. Rather it has been a descent into depravity and the loss of greatness. Although we have advanced by technology, all of it leaves us sorry creatures. Just look at our world and the ways of man. Our moral and spiritual depravity is about to consume us. From terrorism to microorganisms it seems to be a losing battle. Yet that is what God also has said. We read in,
Mankind is a dying race of beings. We strive to lengthen our lives and have fought valiantly to do so, but we still live but three score and ten years. When God created man in the beginning He created us with long life. Before the judgment of the worldwide Flood of Noah’s day, man lived almost a 1000 years on the earth. After the flood, the life span of man decreased rapidly by divine degree. This too decreased man’s wisdom and understanding. Job declared,
Lastly the question I know many of you have is “What about cave men?” They did exist, we’ve seen their cave etchings on walls, and found their tools, artifacts and even some skeletons. Yes we have, but what does that show? Only what I’ve been telling you. Today school textbooks are filled with references to half-savage “cave men” from whom we allegedly descended. The Bible itself speaks of those who lived in caves. After the destruction of Sodom and the other cities of the Plain, Lot and his daughters “dwelt in a cave” (Gen. 19:30). Moreover Isaiah writes,
Caves were frequently used as places of refuge in biblical times. But, anthropological evidence from many cave sites reveals a strictly “human” mode of habitation. There is overwhelming evidence of cooking, sewing, tools, pottery, intricate art work, religious artifacts, and even furniture. Within the caves of the so-called “Neanderthal” people in the region south of Haifa (Israel), there is an abundance of artifacts which reveal that these people were entirely human. The truth is the more isolated and culturally-primitive peoples of our planet have continued to live in caves even in modern times. The Pueblo Indians lived in caves. Were they semi-human? A century ago people were still living in caves in Palestine (see McClintock & Strong, Cyclopedia, Grand Rapids: Baker, 1968, Vol. II, p. 168). Yet, modern science has since shown that the ape-like appearance of some human skeletons came from disease, probably a vitamin deficiency. Today all reputable scientists classify Neanderthal Man as fully human - homo sapiens. We simply must not be intimidated, therefore, by the “cave men” propaganda in the evolutionary-dominated textbooks to which people are exposed. We must personally study the issues, and provide people with biblically sound, scientifically accurate information that will answer their sincere questions, and fortify their faith in this age of unbelief. To sum this up, as we revisited ancient man we realize that our race has suffered a loss, and continues to do so at an alarming rate. Our greatest fight is against death which takes us all. It appears too, it is a losing battle. But thanks be to God we have an answer to our dilemma. God who created us all in the beginning, has not abandoned us in our sin and judgment. He has revealed to us a way to reclaim His blessing and grace. This way is reflected in this Season of Christ now passing. The Bible tells us God loved us so much that He sent us a Savior.
Christmas is the story of fallen man’s promised redemption and restoration. You see, God provided a way after man’s fall, back to glory and greatness. That way, my friend, is through the cross of Calvary where the infinite God-Man died to pay for the sins of fallen mankind. Each individual soul that draws near to God through Jesus Christ, and enters through the cross upon which He died, is promised pardon for all sin, and restoration of the life God intended to give Adam and Eve and all their children. This life is “eternal life,” in the image of God. Jesus Himself said,
Have you believed in the Person and work of Jesus Christ? Have you confessed before God that you are a sinner under judgment and that your only hope of pardon is through the gift of Jesus Christ as your Savior from your sins? If not, right now as the New Year dawns, pray this prayer: “Dear Lord, I now realize I am a sinner. I’ve broken your laws and lived for myself. Forgive all my sins and accept Jesus Christ’s death on that cross as payment as you’ve said. I now call upon Jesus Christ to come and be my Savior and I confess Him as my God. Grant me not only full forgiveness but your gift of eternal life. I ask this in the only Name worthy, my Savior Jesus Christ. Amen” Friend, if you prayed this prayer hear what Jesus Christ Himself says about such prayers from your heart to God,
What a wonderful thing it would be that you enter this new year coming as a child of God. It comes not by way of any good works, or religious rites and performance. It comes by your heart felt prayer of repentance and trust in the living God, Jesus Christ who died for you. All true believers can say as the song writer penned, “Thank you Lord for saving my soul. Thank you Lord for making me whole. Thank you Lord for giving to me, Thy great salvation so rich and free.” May the love of God through Christ open your eyes to see clearly these truths in the history of man revisited and the Word of God presented, for Jesus sake, Amen.
