WORTHLESS TIMEPIECES

“ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS PROBLEMS FACING THE WORLD OF SCIENCE TODAY IS THE BASIS OF FAITH ONE APPROACHES IT WITH. TODAY MOST SCIENTISTS APPROACH THE STUDY OF OUR WORLD AND ORIGINS WITH THE FAITH OF ATHEISM. THIS ALONE CAUSES THE INDIVIDUAL TO BE BLINDED TO TRUTH AND, TO BE AN HONEST EXPLORER OF SCIENCE ITSELF”

I’m Dennis Finnan, host and speaker on the World, the Word & You! Broadcast and in a moment we’ll talk about the amazing world of science and the true basis behind all exploration of it today…

… Well friends, today’s message is rearing to go and be unleashed so let’s pause right now and listen to this moment of music after which I’ll introduce my topic entitled – WORTHLESS TIMEPIECES…

… “One of a most dangerous problems facing the world of science and religion today is the basis of faith one approaches it with. Today most scientists approach the study of our world and origins with the faith belief of Atheism. Atheism boldly declares, “there is no Creator God or designer,” and therefore believes that all life exists and came about by evolving from non-living random elements of matter. With that kind of faith, many scientists and philosophers examine the world about them – not to find truth, but rather to “prove” such mindless faith as the only valid standard for life and living.

However, when most atheist scientists talk about origins, they invariably quote the Bible. Sadly they only do so to prove its falsity concerning its creative teachings particularly in the Book of Genesis. However, most scientists when doing so reveal great ignorance and are often mistaken about what it says. Perhaps the best example of this is in the area of the measurement of time. For many years a dating concept of time, has accompanied the Christian Bible. For years most evolutionary scientists have scoffed at it and ridiculed it. What I’m referring to is the dating system in the King James Version of the Bible called - Usher’s Chronology.

James Usher, who was well associated with the Bible Christian’s have had for years, was an Irish scholar who wrote many books about the Bible. In fact, he was an accomplished lettered man who was indeed an expert in ancient Semitic languages. It was Usher who believed there were enough clues in the Bible to actually establish the very date of creation! So James Usher set out through tedious and intricate calculations to measure and add up the time periods, and ancestral ages mentioned throughout the Scripture. When he had finished this work, he concluded that the Creation of the heavens and the earth occurred in the year 4004 B.C.

At the time of his conclusions, the publishers of the KING JAMES translation of the Bible were about to print a new edition. To increase sales, they chose to insert Usher’s new dating study. Because of this, thousands of readers for centuries now have seen Usher’s dates accompanying the Bible Books and passages throughout the King James Version of the Bible.

Unfortunately, many people have thought that these notes and footnotes, added by the KJV printers to help in the study of the Word of God, were actually part of God’s “inspired” words. Many have therefore accepted Usher’s timepiece as absolutely accurate and valid. However, atheists and other evolutionary scientists have often scoffed at such an early date for the origin of our world, let alone the universe.

Today most geology and astronomy books tell us that the universe is TEN BILLION years old, and our earth is about 4.5 BILLION YEARS OLD. Yet Dr. Usher has said the earth 4004 years old. Of course, all this can only be established by the CLOCKS and TIME PIECES, we use to measure time. Or can it? First of all, Dr. Usher’s dates may actually not be correct. For instance,

When he tediously and carefully calculated the ages given of individuals and then their descendents in the Bible, he may have erred, for God’s Word may not necessarily have given the “full” descendent tree, of humanity in its reporting on the ancestry of even our first parents, Adam and Eve.

For instance, what if God for brevity sake simply condensed the lineage reporting, as may well be the case, then Usher’s dates indeed would be wrong. Therefore, the timepiece Usher used may have variables, which could possibly make his timing very inaccurate. It is upon this frailty godless evolutionist like to rant and rave. They decry and deny Usher’s dating system as completely faulty, being filled with variables that cannot permit substantiation. However on the other hand these “railers” who do not believe in a biblical Creation, also use “timepieces” to date the beginning of our universe and world for their view. However, make a note here that their timepieces may be “worthless” too. For when they use their “clocks” to measure time, their methods, although believed unquestioningly by millions of people - may be seriously faulty. Let’s examine this idea of dating the earth and universe.

Now man has always been interested in his past and the history of our long-ago ancestors. Yet for centuries it had been virtually impossible to determine how old ancient objects were. For many years scientists look for and longed for a way to date the ancient findings that archaeologists often unearthed. Yet back in 1948, atomic scientists made a breakthrough and came up with a brand new dating method or timepiece to measure the age of matter around us. It is called radiometric dating. The “Carbon 14” dating technique was the first to burst upon the world of science as the answer to accurately date the supposed age of carbon objects.

According to the scientists who instantly adopted this method of dating, this was a fail-proof unquestionable method! Radioactive Carbon dating used sophisticated techniques of measuring the amount of Radioactive Carbon-14 all living objects absorb during life. However when a living object died, it no longer absorbs the carbon 14 from the atmosphere. As the object decays, the carbon 14 within breaks down into non-radioactive carbon 12. So then, the amount of carbon 14 remaining is measured against a calculated rate of decay. Now scientists, eager to know the date of ancient dead objects, simply apply this measuring technique and timepiece; and, when they did, the results absolutely thrilled them!

Usher’s dates and timepiece, in the mind of evolutionary scientists now were finally proven false, for fossils remains tested almost always showed ancient ages of 10,000 to 30,000 years old. This of course killed Usher’s dates, and if it killed Usher’s dating of the origin of the universe, then it obviously killed the teachings of the Bible according to Genesis, right? Wrong!

You see my friend, Usher’s dating system that accompanied the wonderful King James Version of the Bible for years, was never inspired in the first place! Thus, it could not be depended upon as absolute truth. The Bible alone is absolute truth and truthful! It can be depended upon, for no one as of this date, anywhere in the world, has ever been able to prove any falsity in the Christian Scripture in the area of theology, science, history or what not. However, the accompanying notes in some translations of the Bible may at times prove inaccurate, as Usher’s timepiece may have been proved to be.

Now Carbon 14 along with other radiometric dating methods discovered, such as uranium dating, and potassium-argon dating, are additional timepieces or clocks used today to measure the past. However, let’s review what conditions are necessary for any clock or timepiece to be considered accurate.

For instance, for a clock or timepiece to be accurate and dependable, we know it

(1) A CLOCK TO BE ACCURATE must run at a VERIFIABLY KNOWN constant rate, and nothing must happen to speed up or slow it down.

All of us have experienced trusting a timepiece, only to find it was slow or fast, or simply wound down or the battery power failed, and its revealed time was inaccurate. Secondly, for a timepiece to be reliable it,

(2) A CLOCK TO BE ACCURATE must be set correctly at the KNOWN beginning of the time period being measured.

Unless the time at the beginning measurement is known, the timepiece cannot keep time or accurately tell you what time it is now.

(3) A CLOCK TO BE ACCURATE must not be disturbed by any faulty resetting of ITS MEASUREMENTS during the time period being measured.

So then, if all these conditions are met then the timepiece or clock may be depended upon. Now it is here, I must tell you a personal story. Awhile ago my family suffered from a chronic inability to arrive on time for our Church services, which was especially difficult for me to prepare for Sunday morning ministry. I constantly spoke to the family about getting up a little earlier, to be able to be ready to leave on time.

The family stoically refused to heed my pleas. One day I decided to try an experiment. When everyone went to bed, at 1:00 am, I quietly arose and reset every timepiece in the house, one hour ahead. Then I went back to sleep. Well the alarms rung in the morning and everyone sleepily got up. Strangely, the family noted that Dad was not harping on everyone to hurry it up! Rather, I sat back enjoyed my morning cup of coffee and let every one them get ready in their own time. Soon, they were all ready for church. Well, we climbed into the family car and lazily traveled to church. Of course if the timepieces in the house were accurate, we would have been at least a half hour late! But to their surprise when we arrived, we were the first ones there! Very puzzled, my wife asked what was going on? Proudly, with a gleam of great accomplishment in my eye, I told them of my experiment, and how I disturbed the timepieces while they were sleeping and I told them an hour ahead so now they had an extra half hour to await the morning worship services.

Now one thing I didn’t calculate in obtaining this moment of personal joy was the family, rather than being happy as I was, well the whole family scowled and became very, very angry with me. I can still remember the wrath of my beloved wife. They were angry that the timepieces they trusted that morning had deceived them and had not given them the right time. Moreover, they were furious that it was I who had fooled them.

Well my illustration I think is impeccable. If they would just get up ten minutes to one hour earlier, they would never be late. But since that infamous date, which I suffered the repercussions of for many days to come, my whole family for a long time was skittish about trusting time pieces in the Finnan household. Well enough of the antics that happen in my home. The point I believe is well illustrated - a timepiece is only accurate and dependable if these three things, I just mentioned, are verified.

Now radiometric dating is perhaps the most difficult of timepieces to trust, for none of these three methods of dating can be trusted. You see, the timepiece of radiometric dating of the half life of radioactive remains in objects, well no one today can verify the known constant rate of decay! Secondly, the radiometric dating methods may be highly inaccurate because no one can verify the date when the measurement values of decay actually began. Third, the measurement procedure may not be dependable because through time the clock has often been disturbed by earthquakes, leaching by water, and other upsets in earth’s history.

For instance, evolutionary scientists have in the past loved the dates yielded by these three methods. Objects have been dated millions; perhaps billions of years old, supposedly proving evolution is true!

Yet in recent years, many evolutionary scientists who have believed these dating methods have been embarrassed as many followers of Usher’s dating timepiece have been too.

For instance, shells of living mollusks have been dated radiometrically at up to 2,300 old. Yet, stone mortar from an English castle, known to be only 785 years old, have been dated with it to be 7,370 years old. Seals, freshly killed, embarrassingly yielded ages by radiometric dating of more than 1,300 years old. Mummified seals dead only 30 years yielded ages at 4,600 years old. In addition, often one object passed around the scientific world to be dated, often yielded grossly different ages, even within the same testing body but at different times.

One University dated a deer antler three different times, and got three different ages. The first was 5,340 years old, the second was 9,310 years old, and the third was 10,320 years old.

The point my friend is this --  Until we can establish an accurate timepiece for dating the age of our universe and all ancient things, Usher’s dates and the evolutionary scientists’ dates - well both cannot be established fact, and therefore should not be reported in magazines, books and periodicals, as established fact. It is here the science manuals, magazines and books often brought into the classrooms of our secular schools, deeply mislead children to believe evolution is the proven means of origins due to the billions of years of age of our universe. Nothing could be more misleading and inaccurate, because of -- the worthless timepieces!

Radiometric clocks today may run and please the atheist scientists, but when all counts are in, they like my beloved family, will find they have been fooled!

God’s record Book is truth, and God says sometime in the past, yet unknown to us all, God created the universe and the earth. However, God also states that in seven of our solar days, it God fashioned the earth and created every living thing upon it (Gen 1:1-31). On the other hand, geology today is revealing some startling truths that disturb evolutionists who need vast ages for their theory to be true. Yet more evidence comes forth that our world, even the universe is relatively young perhaps no more than 50,000 years old! Certainly this is not enough time for evolution to have ever occurred. Yes, from the study of coal, to the age of mountains, galactic clusters in the universe, comets existence, moon dust, spiral galaxies to polonium halos - all point to the evidence of an instantaneous creation, not more than 50,000 years ago!

Friend, the question all of us must then ask is -- who will you believe? Will you blindly take the word of philosophers, parading as scientists, who desperately want you to believe there is no God? The answer is it depends upon the accurate timepiece of life and eternity. Dear hearer, God’s Word is reliable! No, it doesn’t give us the actual date of Creation, but it affirms to you and me that we are God’s choice possession by creation, and as such, God wants you to discover Him, His love for you, and His promised blessings.

This is the reason for Christianity and its revelatory Book, the Bible. It says

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only be gotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall never perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

The radiometric clocks may run - but they don’t keep good time. Yet, God’s prophetic clock is running and it is always on time. God says there is a day coming soon, when He will break into our world, and call us all to account. That day in Scripture is called the “DAY OF THE LORD.”

So then the question is -- will you be ready? Are you ready right now to meet your Maker? If not, call upon Jesus Christ, the infinite God man, who came to earth to save us from our sins. He alone can be trusted for He is the Creator of time itself, and His timing can be depended upon. Paul the apostle writes,

“In the fullness of time, God sent for His Son, born of a woman." (Gal 4:4)

The fullness of time has come, now, for you to receive Him into your heart and life. Do it today for time is running out when no man can any longer repent and turn to God the Savior.

… Well my radio friends, you’ve been listening to the World, the Word & You! Broadcast and speaking has been your host and commentator Dennis Finnan. I hope that today’s message has been an encouragement and help in considering the truth about dating methods used for establishing the origin of our world and creation itself. The fact remains we are here, and the intricacies of our makeup and the environment in which we live all tell us mindless, evolutionary chance brought it all about is the most ridiculous and mindless thinking ever to come into the fantasy of any one’s mind. Better to believe in an intelligent Designer who has identified Himself as God, the very God of the Bible and in these last days revealed Himself as Jesus Christ. It is my prayer you have turned to Him confessing your sins and calling upon Him to save you as He has promised in the Bible. May God add His blessing to these words, for Jesus sake. Amen.
