Finnan Commentator THE EDUCATION DILEMMA “TODAY, MORE THAN EVER TRUTH IS UNDER ASSAULT, AND OF ALL PLACES IN OUR INSTITUTES OF LEARNING. YES FRIENDS, THERE IS A CRISIS TODAY IN EDUCATION, AND THIS DILEMMA HAS NO END IN SIGHT.” I’m Dennis Finnan, host and speaker on the World, the Word & You! Broadcast and in a moment we’ll talk about this battle in the field of education today… Things are happening in America, fast and furiously, but no greater than in the world of American education. Right now, there is a battle going on right in our sacred halls of learning, the public school science classrooms. Yes, all across America there is a stirring to reconsider what has been sacred holy ground for a most popular school of thought called science. Previous dogmatic scientific teachings have been challenged in the public arena of today’s world of education, and crumbling. Down in the southern state of Georgia, in the small county of Cobb, the public school board has agreed to reconsider the whole realm of science education that has for decades, if not a century or more, been taught as absolute truth. What is being reconsidered? The answer is the teaching of evolution. In lightening response, the defenders of this sacred grail of origins, the ACLU quickly filed a lawsuit against Cobb County and now awaits the legal verdict. Let’s talk about education today, and examine what this fray is all about. But before I do, we’ll pause one more time, for another delightful musical expression; then, I’ll return to talk plainly and biblically on this dilemma in education today… …What has happened in public schools across America that merits our attention? The answer is “reason” has popped up in the heads of many school board members. They are coming to reconsider public science education that has for a century or more taught that evolution, the theory of origins taught exclusively in public science classrooms, must be readdressed in a more truthful way. You see friend, evolution, as the origin of all life, has exclusively been taught in our schools as an absolute-fact-happening for decades, with no regard to consider equally plausible alternatives. Well, the Cobb County School Board of the State of Georgia now feels differently. They believe and I quote, “discussion of disputed views of academic subjects is a necessary element of providing a balanced education, including the study of the origin of the species.” As such, they’ve taken steps toward that goal by first placing stickers in all science books stating that evolution is a “theory,” not a fact, and should be critically considered. Well, you can imagine how that has been received by the faithful evolutionists, the political dictators of science teaching, who have enjoyed an absolute and sovereign reign in public education when it came to their theory of origins. Now in light of this, I think it is refreshing to see “reason” return to the classrooms of America, despite the long entrenched evolutionary indoctrination that has been going on for decades. But exactly what is the issue? Do you know friend? Can you defend your beliefs in either theory of the origin of the species? Well let me now give you some thoughts and facts to consider. First of all, what say the defenders of Evolution? The teach that essentially time, chance and natural chemical processes have created all life in the beginning. Therefore, there is no Creator God who is everlastingly and sovereign over all as Christianity teaches. Such ideas to them are figments of man’s imagination, and all thoughts along the line of a “creative” origin of all life must be fought to the end. On the other hand, the defenders of Creationism, the theory of origin by a sovereign, everlasting Creator God, have fiercely fought godless evolution because such a theory utterly contradicts the Bible and its teachings. Especially, the very reason for Jesus Christ’s coming and His important essential work in saving mankind from an eternal destruction, the Bible says has fallen upon the creation and all mankind. Now how secure is the teaching of evolution, especially in their own camp? Well let me quote for you some interesting statements from evolutionist themselves. First though may I say, the theory of evolution stands precariously on the ledge of failure “if” just one of its tenets fails to prove to be absolutely true. Do you know that Darwin himself said that if there is a single structure or organism, the origin of which his theory failed to explain, that this would falsify and discredit his theory of evolutionary origin? Well, it’s been reliably reported that while delivering a keynote address at the American Museum Of Natural History, Dr. Colin Patterson, senior paleontologist of the British Museum (Natural History), amazingly said: "One morning I woke up and something had happened in the night, and it struck me that I had been working on this stuff for 20 years and there was not one thing I knew about it. That's quite a shock....For the last few weeks I've tried putting a simple question to various people and groups of people. Question is: Can you tell me anything you know about evolution, any one thing, any thing that is true? I tried that question on the geology staff at the Field Museum of Natural History and the only answer I got was silence. I tried it on the members of the Evolutionary Morphology Seminar in the University of Chicago, a very prestigious body of evolutionists, and all I got there was silence for a long time and eventually one person said, 'I do know one thing-it ought not to be taught in high school.' " As amazing as that statement is from the lips of staunch evolutionists, you’ll never hear it taught in the science classroom. Yet since Darwinian evolution is a belief system based largely on “faith,” not fact, Professor Louis T. Moore, a vocal evolutionist, said: "The more one studies paleontology, the more certain one becomes that evolution is based on faith alone." Can you believe it? This is why school boards around the nation that have reasoning members on it, are reconsidering the factual teaching of evolution in the classroom. You see, evolution is NOT a proven truth concerning the origins of life. In fact, it cannot stand at all in such light, and those who promote it now some openly confess that. Yet, it is entrenched in public education by the scientific dictators who believe that indoctrination in their belief system of atheism must be taught to ensure a captive audience of followers. A great Christian thinker of the past well said, "It is absurd for the Evolutionist to complain that it is unthinkable for an admittedly unthinkable God to make everything out of nothing, and then pretend that it is more thinkable that nothing should turn itself into everything." —G. Chesterson Yet that is what has been taught. Right now three states give districts the option of offering in science classes, “Creationism” as an alternative or accompanying view to evolution. But now all this is mute in light of the fact that every individual human being must decide for himself or herself what theory of origins they will embrace. You see both Creationism and Evolutionism must be believed “by faith,” for no one was there in the beginning to verify it, and observable science cannot measure origins to prove either one true or false. Furthermore, whatever theory you embrace, it will determine your lifestyle and future now and in eternity. So friend, it’s important to understand the stakes. Let me share with you from a creationist’s viewpoint, why we believe that all things came into being by the creative act of an everlasting, sovereign, and omnipotent Being called God. What proof do we have to back that up? The answer is the Christian Bible, which has stood the test of centuries. Realize this, no person ever alive has been able to dispute or tear down the Bible’s teachings on any subject that embraces science or philosophy, or anything for that matter. On the other hand, everything taught in the Bible, if embraced personally, has proven to be beneficial, and helpful to the believer and society anywhere in time or the world we live in. Just think for a moment about all the benefits and good things we experience in our world. What philosophy of life brought it about? The answer alone is the Christian teachings of the Bible. The greatness of America, its laws, and the good works and blessings we have incurred and partake of, all came about because of the belief system of origins in the Bible, and particular belief in the God of the Bible revealed through Jesus Christ. But now what does the Bible say specifically about the origin of all life? Listen to an overwhelming testimony,
That about sums up the Bible’s teaching on the matter of evolution vs. creationism. No one can claim to be a believer in God and His Son Jesus Christ, and accept evolution as the source of all life as we know it. To do so is to deny the writers of Scripture, the apostles teachings and what Jesus Christ himself said. Yet, this is the education dilemma. Schools have for decades, by law, been required to teach only evolution as the source origin of all life, and to teach it as a proven fact. But, now, the wind has changed and many who are not even fundamentalist Christians, are seeking to have a balanced presentation within the science curriculums to better reflect truth as it is. Indeed, “Creationism,” must be accepted by faith, for no one can prove it factually true, but then even more evolution is also a “faith,” as many evolutionists admit, and has even less credibility within true science to substantiate it. So the question is who are we to believe? Are we to accept the teachings of fallen, sinful rebellious humanity’s concepts of origins called evolution, or are we to accept the teachings of God’s Word, and its many verifications within the world of science as to the origin of all life, especially yours and mine. Perhaps, one of Scriptures most startling verses is found in the Book of Isaiah, who wrote down the very voice of God speaking to the world He created.
The conclusion then is obvious to one willing to discover the truth. The evidence of incredible design is everywhere! So states the Bible, in warning us not to reject what we can see with our eyes and understand with our minds,
The Evolutionist has a unique faith. Shall we call it the “Atheist’s Faith.” Here are the tenets of the atheistic evolution faith:
Now believing all these things, the true atheist must conclude the following, 1. Nothing produced something. 2. Intelligence, design, conscience, and personality are free from any external influence. 3. Life follows a deterministic but meaningless law. 4. We are accountable to no one, therefore there is no right or wrong, good or evil. So friends, it boils down to our choosing to have faith in either accidental meaningless miracle happenings, or the created God designed miracles. Yes, it’s that simple. It is either God or man, and you have to choose! The Bible says,
Someone has well said, that evolution is “an animistic religion requiring a completely unverifiable faith, offering an absurd meaningless life and an absolute death as reward for such belief.” Furthermore, the evolutionist says he does not believe in God because he cannot believe the supernatural miracles which violate or deviate from the known laws of nature. Well just think about that! Why, the theory of evolution violates every known law of science for its supposed existence. Yes, without a doubt, atheistic faith is more incredible than the logical Christian faith in light of all the more credible evidences. So the question for education today is – Is evolution Scientific? Dr. Henry Morris answers: “No matter how one looks at it, the theory of evolution must trace back to a point at which inanimate dead matter became an instant complex living form. Here is the absurd story of evolution: Unknown chemicals in the primordial past, through unknown processes which no longer exist, produced unknown life forms which are not to be found; but could, through unknown reproduction methods spawn new life in an unknown atmospheric composition in an unknown oceanic soup complex , at an unknown time and place.” Indeed, this wacky concept that faces all those who accept evolution as the origins of all life reveals evolution does not constitute a bona fide scientific theory at all, and has therefore become the 20th century’s greatest mythology. Now most important is this fact that if evolution is untrue, and creation is truth, to reject God’s Word and teachings on it, and denying what God’s Son Jesus Christ says in verification of it, places you in peril of your existence. You see Jesus clearly said,
We must make a choice, and every school child should not be deprived of making their own informed choices too. Say on that note friend, have you made a choice? The answer is “sure you have!” If you have not believed in Jesus Christ as God come in the flesh, as Savior of the world, you have embraced the meaningless philosophy of evolution and the Bible says you will ultimately perish in your sins when death comes to claim you. Now, one can choose to embrace evolution, but remember to do so requires you to call God’s Word and God’s Son and all the prophets and apostles and the entire Christian faith, a lair and fraud! To do so, causes you reject the only means of saving you from your sins. So, the controversy over creation and evolution then is really a battle between two world religions. One must choose the chance, randomness, no-God evolutionary philosophy which provides the basis for the religion of humanism in which ‘anything goes’; immorality, genocide, homosexuality, abortion, incest, etc. None of these things can ever be regarded as evil, for without a higher absolute sovereign law against such things, evil does not exist, and nothing then can be good or evil, right or wrong. Or, you can choose to believe in the absolutes of the Creator God who made everything, and therefore has the authority to dictate what is right or wrong for His creation. The choice, then, is between the religion of Christianity with the basis of its saving Gospel in a literal creation, or the religion of humanism with its basis in evolution, and its meaningless life and death it proposes. May God lead you to consider or reconsider where your faith will be placed. Will it be in the god of evolution, which is no god, or in the God of Creation which is Jesus Christ? God’s word to you and me today is a fitting conclusion to my talk ,
…The theory of evolution, like creation, is a philosophy and faith, not a science. It cannot fit into the qualified scientific method of observation and verification. Yet, both theories can be viewed as models to be tested, with available evidence from geology, paleontology, genetics and embryology to see which more accurately explains origins. And friend, hands down, Creationism wins! That’s the education dilemma, and only time and the Lord will reveal what man and society will do with it in our world of education. · Radio talk #4002 · Broadcast date: October 06, 2002 · Speaker: Dennis L.
