THE EYES HAVE IT |
The argument never seems to end! No matter where you go as a Christian
you are confronted by this pressure to accept as truth something
that is nothing less than a ridiculous figment of a sinful imagination.
What is this argument? Why it's the old argument of evolution
verse creationism. Now I know some many might say - " Haven't
we heard enough of that?" My answer is no, for every argument
against evolution brings the hearer to realize how important it
is to understand our origins. So today on the broadcast, we are
going to look at a fascinating subject of human anatomy that beyond
all concepts of reason and truth, debunks the myth of evolution
and glorifies the Creator who is most blessed of all. But before
we get down to examine the wonders of creation within our own
very personal being, let's pause again and listen to this
Today more and more scientists are concluding that "the
evolutionary record leaks like a sieve
and that there are
so many flaws in Darwinism that one can wonder why it
is
still endemic today." Yet evolution is alive and well
not because of any scientific support, rather on the contrary
it's supposed scientific support has washed away in the flood-tide
of evidence that seriously supports the theory of Creationism.
No it is alive today because so few challenge its false premise
and flimsy proofs.
Yes my friend, on that account today I want to examine a tiny part of the human body that has since the inception of the argument of evolution defied explanation. Why Charles Darwin personally shuddered at the thought that evolutionary processes had to explain -- human vision. In fact, Darwin himself said, "To suppose that the eye could have been formed by natural selection, seems I confess, absurd in the highest degree." Yet he like every other evolutionist believed it evolved anyway. However, since the time of Darwin, science has progressed considerably and along with it our knowledge of the human eye.
Now if one ponders the intricacy of the eye, any logical thinking
person could not in any way support the theory of evolution. In
is with this respect, I want to examine the amazing eye, so you
too can marvel at the abundant evidence of the Creator's handiwork
in all around us. To begin we ask ourselves, could the human eye
have evolved? Actually it would be simpler to postulate a 747
Jumbo jet to have suddenly appeared, fully loaded and ready for
flight, simply the result of an unattended explosion in a junk
yard that of all things even had no junk. Yes, the eye is a fantastic
marvelous thing.
Scientific experts today declare, "we know the human eye
is a complex part of the body that is used exclusively for sight.
Eyes enable people to perform daily tasks and learn about the
world God created. Scientists have learned that sight is basically
a rapidly occurring process that involves continuous interaction
between the eye, the nervous system, and the brain. When we look
at an object we really only see the light reflected off an object.
This reflected light passes through the lens and falls on the
retina of the eye. Here the light induces nerve impulses that
travel through the optic nerve to the brain and then over nerves
to muscles and glands." The psalmist of old wondered about
these intricacies of Creation too when he declared:
Psalms 145:3 (KJV) "Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable."
Psalms 143:5 (NIV) " I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done."
As to the evolution of the eye, nothing is more absurd to consider
in light of the most recent findings about its functions. Consider
this recent discovery: "Modern Ophthalmology has discovered
that the eye in its work of vision has three imperceptibly tiny
movements. These three movements are referred to as 'tremors,
drifts and saccades,' which occur by the minute contractions in
the six muscles attached to the outside of each of your eyes.
Yes, every fraction of a second they very slightly shift the position
of our eyeball, automatically, without conscious effort, making
sight as we know it possible."
I understand that these tiny tremors, drifts and saccades so tiny,
continuously and rapidly wobble your eyeball in a circular fashion,
causing the cornea and retina of your eyes to move in circles
with incredibly minute diameters of approximately 1/1000 of a
millimeter, or .00004 inch. Accordingly, up to 70 times a second
our eye muscles tirelessly move to produce vision as we see it.
For without these astronomical movements over a lifetime, images
would appear in broken and distorted form without the smooth flow
of moment we enjoy through sight. Now, Darwin didn't know about
this aspect of the operation of the human eye. Had he known, he
might of abandoned his foolish love of evolution. Yet the human
eye for all we know today still stands as the most marvelous element
of creation ever to know and study.
Consider the eyes formation. When light reflected from an object
of sight enters a human eye, it passes through the cornea, the
pupil and the lens and lands on the retina. The retina contains
two kinds of light detecting cells. These cells are called rods
and cones. The cones are color sensors, and the rods make night
vision possible. The retina is paper thin but contains about 130
billion light receptors. Around 6 million of these are the "cones,
that allow us to see some 8 million different colors. The remaining
124 million rods only detect black and white reflected light.
These rods are crucial for the human eye which allow night vision.
Once the eye adjust to darkness these rods become 75,000 times
more sensitive, allowing us to see many very dimly lit objects
and movement.
Now eyes in various creatures which God has made, vary in makeup.
It appears God designed eyes to meet the differing needs of such
creatures environment. Human beings for instance, need excellent
resolution for detail work, so God designed the human eye for
detail. But, the pesky fly that buzzes us during the summer months
has a different eye and need. Since this creature needs speed
as we all know, its eye is designed to see images at ultra high
speed. A fly can detect a flicker of 200Hz, verses the human eye
at 10 hz, which would allow it to see our conventional movies
as slide shows! This enables the fly to be one step ahead of your
attempts to catch it by hand.
Then there is the differing construction of eyes for say, sea
creatures. For example, the eye of a squid differs greatly from
the human eye. The human eye is constructed with the retina's
'millions of wires' coming out in front if it. Some scientists
laugh at this mistake of nature as they call it. Yet the squid
is the opposite. But human beings whose eyes see back to front
have this design feature for a special reason. Most importantly,
it give it the ability to filter short-wave ultraviolet (cancer
causing) light. But the squid's eye does not have the "protective
wiring" in front if its light receptors so it cannot filter
out harmful ultraviolet rays. Why?
Well, God designed the squid to live in a different environment
where the possibility of UV light is negligible. Yet in examining
this sea creature's eyes and our human eye, both show exquisite
design for our exact environment. Now this explains the Bible's
comment that says,
Acts 17:26 (NIV) "From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live."
Yes, every creature God has made, was uniquely designed to operate
within a specific environment, and with a distinct purpose . Take
for instance the Archerfish. This fish feeds in an amazing way.
By swimming on top of the water, it looks up through it at the
overhanging branches of trees and bushes. There on the limbs rest
unsuspecting insects. The moment the archerfish spots an insect
perched on a limb even several feet above the water, its powerful
eyes focus on its prey and intricately measure the distance away,
and then it actually spits a drop of water from its mouth, with
high power. Its aim is absolutely perfect, and knocks the tiny
insect off the limb into the waiting mouth of this fish. What
amazing accuracy its eye and brain functions have been given by
God.
Then there is the four-eyed fish of Central and South American
rivers which actually swims on the surface of the water. As a
matter of fact its name is incorrect. You see, God specially designed
the eye of this fish, quite uniquely. The two eyes are divided
by a black horizontal line across the center of the eye, giving
the appearance that there are each two eyes totaling four. The
top half of each eye was strictly created for seeing in the air,
the lower half was specifically designed for seeing in water.
Now really, how can anyone who has a clear unbiased mind ever
believe that the eye of any creature in and on the earth ever
evolved? What's more, think how challenging it would be for man
to create the unbelievable genetic code needed to produce these
fine-tweaked nervous systems that enable the precise coordinated
muscular movements, nervous systems and brain calculations to
bring sight, vision and necessary coordination and use of these
eyes.
Indeed, my friend this is clear evidence of the Creator's hand
and His personal signature in our environment. For the Bible says,
Genesis 1:1 (NIV) "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV) "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
John 1:1 (NIV) "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
John 1:14 (NIV) "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us ""
Colossians 1:16-17 (NIV) "For by him [Jesus Christ] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
In no word, no verse, no book in the entire Bible is there any
evidence or hint of a gradual development of life of any kind,
not to mention the unique parts of our bodies. On the contrary,
many passages reflect the truth that in a short period of time,
the act of Creation involved a divine miracle. Again we read in
the holy Scriptures, the words of Moses who spoke by divine inspiration,
Exodus 20:11 (NIV) "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."
Deuteronomy 32:6 (NIV) " O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?"
Nehemiah the Old Testament prophet declared,
Nehemiah 9:6 (NIV) "You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you."
King David who wrote the majority of the Psalms under the guidance
of the Spirit of God said,
Psalms 33:6 (NIV) "By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth."
And, Isaiah the mighty and powerful prophet of the Lord thundered
before God's people,
Isaiah 43:1 (NIV) "But now, this is what the LORD says-- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine."
Isaiah 45:12 (NIV) "It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts."
Isaiah 45:18 (NIV) "For this is what the LORD says-- he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited-- he says: "I am the LORD, and there is no other."
These are but a few of the declarative words of God, written to
the minds of men that they might not be confused by the sinful
wishes of the rebel heart of man who denies his Creator.. All
these verses along with the very creation itself declare the mighty
miracle of Creation. Those today who deny and fight to keep Creationism
out of the minds of growing children are the same individuals
who fight against the Bible, and the Christian faith. Why is this?
The answer is simple my friend. Since there is power in the Word
of God to change minds and lives, to open hardened hearts, to
heal sin sick lives, fallen rebellious man must try to deny the
truth of God's Word, to remove the guilt of sin that weighs so
heavily over them. Evolutionism and all its defenders are believers
not because its true, but because to accept the opposite, would
be tantamount to submission to the one true God and Savior Jesus
Christ.
As Darwin shuddered at the thought that evolutionary processes
had to explain human vision, what would he have said knowing now
what intricacy and splendor of design the eye really has? Well,
only God knows. But, one thing is sure. If Darwin had not recanted
his position that there was no creation, and no Creator, he surely
knows its truth now. Ah, but the sad thing is, he knows God now
but only in His wrath against sin. You see friend the bible warns,
all who die without Christ as their Savior die in their sins.
Jesus often warned people of this perilous state that awaits all
men who shun the light of God's word and truth,
John 8:21 (NIV) "Once more Jesus said to them, "I am going away, and you will look for me, [but] you will die in your sin, [For] where I go, you cannot come.""
John 8:24 (NIV) "I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the One I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.""
Well, the truth is out there and you now know a part of it. For
from the fascinating discovery of these tiny tremors, drifts and
saccades of the human eye, to the 130 million light receptors
each eye was fashioned to contain - The amazing truth is God has
revealed Himself for all to see. And, just as we see with our
physical eyes the world around us, God grants spiritual sight
to see the Lord Jesus clearly through the world's marvelous creation,
and the revelation of His Son Jesus Christ. Say friend, if you
haven't taken Christ as your Savior yet, don't delay, the hour
is coming when no man will ever again be able to receive Christ
into their heart and lives and be forgiven of all their sins.
That hour that awaits all men is the hour of our death. The Bible
says in,
Hebrews 9:27 (NIV) "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,"
God grant each and everyone of you reading this today the necessary
faith and repentance to receive eternal life
In closing let me ask you -- are you aware that many scientists
today who study the creation are beginning to question the validity
of evolution they were taught in their schools of early learning?
The more they explore the world we live in, the more many are
coming to see the mighty and living hand of a powerful Creator.
I trust you've come to see that too, and if not, that you take
the time to study the creation from the standpoint of the marvelous
complexity of life and its support. In so doing, such seeking
hearts will undoubtedly climb the mountain of exploration and
find at its top the Creator Himself who welcomes all to His loving
side. God bless this message today to your hearts for Jesus sake,
amen.
