ONE NATION UNDER GOD

Well here we are celebrating another july 4th, weekend as we remember the foundation and blessings our nation has experienced since its inception. yet, how many young people today really know the truth about america ?”

I’m Dennis Finnan, host and speaker on the World, the Word & You! Broadcast and in a moment we’ll talk about the often suppressed truth about our nation’s Christian heritage …

…But for now on this special July 4th weekend, it’s time for some patriotic music. After which I’ll return with today’s message en titled “ONE NATION UNDER GOD…”

... There isn’t a soul in America today, who hasn’t heard or perhaps also recited the Pledge of Allegiance:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America

and to the Republic for which it stands,

one Nation, under God,

indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

I remember it well, although I was only a young man, but in 1954, Congress voted to add two very important words, "Under God," to our original Pledge of Allegiance. It took me awhile to change my memorized pledge I recited every morning in school.  President Eisenhower addressed Congress after the resolution was passed, saying, "In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America 's heritage and future. In this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource in peace and war."

Actually, the national Pledge of Allegiance came into existence on Columbus Day in October 1892, when more than 12 million public school children in every state in the union began reciting it, and continued to do so each day before schooling began. Moreover, the pledge has undergone three distinct changes in its history. On June 14, 1923 , the words “the flag of the United States were substituted for “my flag.” In 1924, “of America was added and finally on Flag Day June 14, 1954 , the words “under God” were added which we pledge to this day.

Yet all of us know the protests that recently came about from the atheistic, godless side of America , to try to declare the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional. This was just a string of attacks on Americanism and the blessed heritage this nation was founded upon. Yes you’ve heard it before and maybe been told it’s just not true, but the fact remains it is! America was firmly and incontestably founded as a Christian nation; and, the philosophy for life, living and justice was to operate on the principles of law and morality found only in the Christian Bible. Can I prove that? You bet, for after our second patriotic pause, for some music of the season. Don’t go away; I’ll be right back…

... I am constantly amazed and angered by the relentless attacks upon our nation’s heritage by the so called ACLU, a leftist and socialistic legal organization that says its goal is guard American freedom. Many Americans have dubbed this to mean 'Anti-Christian Licentious Union,' for if you examine its work in the past 50 years you will find its only goal is to tear down and destroy and vestige of Christian imprint in our nation’s laws, life and heritage. In short, ACLU founder Roger Nash Baldwin left behind an institution that is fundamentally un-American and even subversive to the principles upon which America was founded. Now I can say that because what they fight against is simply one thing – “Christianity” and any semblance of its philosophies found in American national life and institutionalism.

Not long ago, a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals district court in California insanely ruled that the Pledge of Allegiance with the words "under God" in the Pledge, make it unconstitutional for recitation in public settings, particularly schools. Although the ruling only extended to the states in that federal court's jurisdiction such as Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington, popular opinion became enraged over such an attack to our national heritage. Fortunately, this was overturned by the U.S. Congress with a bill signed by President Bush reaffirming the Pledge of Allegiance with the words, “under God” in it.

Yet we must ask this July 4th weekend, why is there so much antagonism to anything in national and societal life when it comes to Christian principles, words, or philosophy? The answer is in one word – ANTI-CHRISTIAN SECULARISM.

Secularism is a disguised word for socialistic atheism, or SOCIALISM, which hates all religion, but especially that which is Christianity. Those who are dedicated to it as the ACLU and other leftist organizations, work tirelessly to root out of all national law and institutionalism anything that smacks or even hints of Christianity.

What then is SOCIALISM? It is any form of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is either owned collectively or managed by a centralized government agency, that often plans and controls the economy. Socialism is simply a stage in Marxist-Leninist theory, intermediate between capitalism and communism. Socialism in America unfortunately is alive, well, and growing. Aided by much of the “new” Democratic party and influential Congressmen as John Conyers, Ranking Member of the House Judicial Committee, David Bonior, Maxine Waters, and nearly 60 other Representatives; indeed, “Socialism” is advancing in America behind their anti-Christian label – secularism.

This is why I believe there are growing attacks upon the foundational heritage of America . The Bible says clearly,

Psa 11:3 (NASB)  If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?"

The foundations of America are squarely based on Christian thought and philosophy found exclusively in the Bible. Now I know many have come to believe the lie that America was founded as a secular nation, but this is simply not true!

Let me share with you some real honest proofs no one can deny, then as FOX NEWS always says: “WE REPORT, YOU DECIDE!” To begin, all one has to do to find out if our American heritage was either secular or Christian -- is examine the original state constitutions of America . Yes, the founding documents tell us much about what philosophy of life, law and American institutionalism were to be the course of that state as part of this nation of America .

There is no doubt that America 's founders did not intend for there to be a separation of God and state, as shown by the fact that all 50 states acknowledge God as the basis of their existence and continuance as a state body. The so declare in their state constitutions. Here’s a sampling to consider:

  1. Arizona 1911, Preamble. We, the people of the State of Arizona , grateful to Almighty God for our liberties, do ordain this Constitution...

  2. Arkansas 1874, Preamble. We, the people of the State of Arkansas , grateful to Almighty God for the privilege of choosing our own form of government...

  3. California 1879, Preamble. We, the People of the State of California , grateful to Almighty God for our freedom.

  4. Colorado 1876, Preamble. We, the people of Colorado , with profound reverence for the Supreme Ruler of Universe.

  5. Florida 1885, Preamble. We, the people of the State of Florida , grateful to Almighty God for our constitutional liberty, establish this Constitution...

  6. Idaho 1889, Preamble. We, the people of the State of Idaho , grateful to Almighty God for our freedom, to secure its blessings ...

  7. Illinois 1870, Preamble. We, the people of the State of Illinois, grateful to Almighty God for the civil, political and religious liberty which He hath so long permitted us to enjoy and looking to Him for a blessing on our endeavors.

  8. Indiana 1851, Preamble. We, the People of the State of Indiana , grateful to Almighty God for the free exercise of the right to choose our form of government.

These are just a few of the 50 states of the union which all confessed in their foundational documents, that Almighty God, the God of the Judeo-Christian Bible and Christianity were to be the basis of their existence and operation. So, one really does not need to go further, for that alone seals the argument -- America was founded as

“one nation under God!”

Let’s not forget that this July 4th celebration weekend. But more than that, we need to ask “why” did our founding fathers establish this nation under the laws, principles and morality of the Bible? The answer is, there is no philosophy of life or living anywhere that can bring God’s blessings upon that nation than to follow the one true God who created all things. In fact, if you examine even the governing principles of American judicial law, legislative and executive rulership, you’ll find it is based squarely on biblical principles found in the Old Testament; for example: Where did America get the idea of establishing three branches of government? The answer is the Bible alone. Thus, we have the Judicial, Legislative and Executive Branches of government taken from the Biblical Foundation of the theocracy of Israel :

Isa 33:22 (NIV)  For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; it is he who will save us.

No other philosophy exists in American law and life given us by our founders, than biblically oriented concepts. And of course, we have experienced the blessings that come from it too.

Have you notice one more thing? Foolish people in America have come to believe that you can have a democracy, or better yet a democratic republic such as America is, and establish it anywhere else, but without national commitment to the philosophy of Christianity. The answer is – you can’t! Look at the nations of the world that supposedly adopted democracies without Christianity as the rule of law and the heart of its people? It miserably fails.

The truth is democracy in Iraq is a pipe dream when the ruinous hate-filled religion of Islam is maintained for institutionalism, societal life and national law. The same goes anywhere else. You cannot have a true workable democracy without Christianity as its basis of law and life.

As America is now jettisoning all vestiges of Christian thought, societal living and morality, this nation is crumbling at its foundation and will continue to do so until it topples. Will America topple and cease to exist as it was founded? Absolutely, unless Americans return to honoring the God of the Bible in their lives, and keep His laws as the basis of societal relationships.

How do I know that? Simple; because God Himself warns us and every nation that begins to think it can exist without allegiance to the Creator God Himself.

Psa 9:17    “…all the nations that forget God will be turned into the grave.”

Prov 14:34   “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”

What about this idea of Christian morality and religion in American law and life? Listen to the words of America ’s 2nd U.S. President, John Adams who stated:

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion... Our Constitution was made only for a moral and a religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Today we hear so much about the need for “separation of Church and State.” This phrase lifted from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson -- author of the Declaration of Independence, and 3rd President of the United States  -- is twisted beyond distortion, and is rammed down the throats of American’s who wish to retain historic Americanism, whenever Christian philosophy is found in American societal life. But, the truth about Thomas Jefferson's "Wall of Separation between Church and State" found in his letters, can be discovered by keeping the context of it. For instance, at the turn of the 19th century, Baptists in Danbury , Connecticut were being persecuted because they were not part of the "Congregationalist" religious establishment of that state. So the Danbury Baptist Association, concerned about religious liberty in our new nation, wrote to President Thomas Jefferson on October 7, 1801 .

In response, President Jefferson wrote his letter containing the now famous phrase, "thus building a wall of separation between church and State." In the context of his letter, the "wall" what President Jefferson spoke about, was that protective wall which was created by the First Amendment, in order to keep the Government from establishing a federally mandated denomination or sect of Christianity, thus prohibiting the American People their right to the free exercise of religion. This is not what is taught or followed judicially.

Today, instead of protecting our religious freedom of expression, our Government is taking away our religious freedoms. We are deceived into thinking that Thomas Jefferson's phrase is a part of our Constitution, and that its intent is to prohibit any free exercise of religion within our governmental institutions or in public view, when in reality, just the opposite is true. The clear intent of Thomas Jefferson; the First Amendment to the Constitution; and, of our Founding Fathers, remains with us today. Their intent originally was and always has been, not that religion should be kept out of our Government, but that our Government should be kept out of religion!

Yet our courts today, staffed by godless socialistic atheists, know they cannot change the Christian oriented Constitution, so they attempt to make changes by ruling from the bench, and by twisting American law to reflect their anti-American views which are contrary to our foundation documents, purpose and original intent.  Some examples are:

  1. ‘Separation of church and state,’ as applied to education, means that a prayer at a graduation ceremony is unconstitutional.

  2. It also means that students may not pause for a moment of silence at the beginning of their school day.

  3. It means that a nativity scene may not be displayed on public property unless there are other displays (e.g. Santa Clause or Christmas trees) that secularize the presentation.

  4. Today's conception of "separation of church and state" has also been used to remove historic crosses from public property, and religious symbols from city seals.

  5. It has been used to remove the Ten Commandments from courtrooms, even though they are carved in stone within the architecture of the Supreme Court building.

  6. The concept has been used to prevent religious expressions on personalized license plates…”

These are but a few of the official applications of the concept, or "law" of "separation of church and state," as interpreted by the secular socialists, with total disregard to our founders intent.  I tell you my friend, unless godly people rise up and stand against these things, we will see this beautiful nation of America destroyed -- as the foundations are removed and replaced by godless philosophies that will be judged by God in the end.

Now what can we do? The answer is, when you hear, see or experience Christian persecution in American life in schools, or society, stand up against it. Also where possible, contest it lawfully and be outspoken about it. Furthermore, stop sending your children to the atheistic evangelistic public schools today that are infested with rabid socialistic anti-Christian leadership. If you want children to fully understand their heritage, send them to private schools or home school them yourself. Also begin by displaying the American motto: “IN GOD WE TRUST,” everywhere you can. Print it on your checks, display license plates where possible, and when you write letters put the motto in your letterhead. What’s more,  if possible Christians need to run for political offices, locally and nationally. Yes, we Christians need to stop being silent. But lastly, make it known to the political parties you will not vote for anyone who stands for anti-Christian philosophy and values in American society and law. Be sure to vote all such godless people out of office. Amazingly enough, Christians in America , if they band together have the ability to change our government overnight.

Well, that’s all I can say about that. However as we come to a close of our programming, I will never close this broadcast without telling you of the GOOD NEWS God’s Word has not only for nations to stay intact and be blessed by God, but what you can personally do to assure God’s blessings in your life and for eternity.  The Bible is, my friend, God’s love letter to you, telling you of His great plan and purpose for your existence. Yes, God created you to be with Him now and for eternity. Yet sin has broken that relationship, and until all mankind returns to God, acknowledging our sins against God, and turning our lives, hearts and wills over to the Lordship of Jesus Christ as one’s Savior -- Not only will nations be turned into the grave, but also every soul that draws breath. Look and live, turn to Christ, make Him first place in your life, and serve Him and God will bless your life and heart to over flowing. Today the call of Christianity is still out –

John 5:24 (NIV)  "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

Acts 16:31 (NIV)  "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."

America needs saving from the godless crowd which is trying to take over this nation and cast out every Christian vestige. But sin has also taken over the heart of man, and God wants to rescue us by offering full forgiveness of sins, and a new life in Christ to all who will believe in His Person and work on the cross. Go to God right now, confess your sins against him and receive His Son Jesus Christ who died for you. Then you will be on the right path that leads to the light of God and His wonderful blessings. Failing to return to God, and walking away into human darkness as America is doing, will only bring the grave and for individuals, eternal death. May God bless these Word to each listening heart, for Jesus sake. Amen.

... Now in closing please know it s my fervent prayer that all who join me on the radio or website have come to know Jesus Christ personally as their Lord God and Savior, and at the least you continue to seek and listen to the Word of God for their life and living.

Have a wonderful, safe and enjoyable July 4th tomorrow and may God’s blessing be with you. This is Dennis Finnan signing off and looking forward to see you again one week from today on this fine station. God bless, and good bye.
