A NEW GOSPEL?

"WHAT HAS BEEN THE GREATEST DESIRE AMONG MEN SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME? -- THE ONE THING ALL OF US DESIRE ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE? THE ANSWER IS TO BE GOD!”

In a moment we’ll talk about it in my message entitled “A NEW GOSPEL.” Stay tuned…

...I tell you my friend I’m scared these days… scared that is about where the Church of Jesus Christ is going; for, what I’m hearing and seeing appear in “Christian” circles is something truly to be feared. You see we are witnessing these days a resurgence of the age old wicked and sinful thrust of fallen man’s desire that was born in the Garden of Eden long ago. What troubles me is the Church of Jesus Christ is now embracing this with full intensity, and millions, yes literally millions of unsuspecting people are being drawn into what in reality is nothing short of Christian Occultism. Now, am I an alarmist, or one who exaggerates? Not on your life, and literally I mean that, for this “new” message being taught today, expounded from pulpits and broadcast from Christian television studios, is nothing short of the old lie Satan promised mankind long ago – “that you shall be as God” (Gen 3:5).

Nothing is quite so appealing to the human mind than the promise of power, unlimited power. It begins in childhood and is fueled by the fantasy stories of magic powers one can find or discover within us. Why even Christian’s these days are promoting such tales in popular secular and Christian writings that have given us the HARRY POTTER book series, and the LORD OF THE RINGS fantasy series. In all of these things, fallen mankind’s dream of becoming gods is realized. However, going beyond fantasy stories, we now have a NEW GOSPEL being preached within the professing church. Where and who is promoting this “new” and shall I warn, “deadly” teaching and promise? The answer is our popular Christian broadcasting mediums found in the likes of TBN, the Trinity Broadcasting Network owned and operated by men like Paul c& Jan Crouch. There with full promotion, a new and dangerous Gospel is being proclaimed that defies God’s Word, and is condemned in Scripture. What you say? Oh yes, my friend this “new” gospel is being promoted fiercely and worse, is being believed by millions across the land. Well now you say, just what is this new gospel, and can you prove it is not good and wholesome for us? The answer is yes to both of those questions, and if you’ll stay with me I’ll tell you the answers.

To begin, we must go back to the beginning of Genesis where we are told about the original origin and creation of man. We read in Genesis,

John 1:1-3 (NIV)  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Gen 1:1 (NIV)  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Gen 1:26-27 (NIV)  Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness…  27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Gen 2:16-17 (NIV)  And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”

We are told that when God created Adam and Eve, He gave them everything in the universe. All that was necessary to gain it, was for them to conquer it with their God given genius and ability. However, God being sovereign and omnipotent, He did not give man those qualities which made God, God. So man was created to be subservient to the Creator. To allow man this unlimited freedom of life, God provided a test to see if mankind would fully qualify to own such privileges and pleasures. Adam and Eve told to respect the ownership rights of God. A simple test was given where God claimed one small thing, off limits to mankind. It was a tree that symbolized the knowledge of good and evil. If man violated God’s ownership and took it for himself, he would have crossed the line and show he attempted to take on the position that he was but another god like the Creator. This is the story of the temptation and fall. It all began earlier of course, when Satan, the fallen angel, partook of this forbidden fruit in kind and fell. The Bible tells us in,

Isa 14:14-15 (NIV)  I [Satan] will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” 15 But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.

Satan or Lucifer as he is generally known was the highest created angel in Heaven. But he got it into his mind that he was a god like the sovereign Creator, and in seeking and taking that position, He sinned and fell from Heaven’s grace. Falling to earth he tempted the first family to seek the same thing – to be as god! And, my friend in our sin and nature that befell us, we have been doing that since that time. But what’s worse is God’s’ rescue plan called the Gospel of Jesus Christ which has been for 2000 years calling mankind away from this sinful quest to be gods, and to surrender ourselves to the sovereignty and absolute Lordship of the Creator Himself, revealed to us in the Person of Jesus Christ. Thus, the Bible’s teaching on the GOOD NEWS GOSPEL is this.

(1)   ALL HUMAN BEING ARE SINNERS, AND ARE UNDER A JUDGMENT OF DEATH

(2)   ALL HUMAN BEINGS HAVE, BECAUSE OF OUR FIRST PARENTS SIN, INHERITED A SIN NATURE THAT SEEKS TO BE ITS OWN GOD.

(3)   UPON DEATH, ALL HUMANITY WILL PERISH IN AN EVERLASTING HELL AS PUNISHMENT FOR THIS GREAT SIN.

(4)   GOD LOVES THE WORLD OF MAN SO MUCH, THAT HE DEVISED A WAY TO FREE THE GUILTY FROM THEIR COMING JUDGMENT.

(5)   GOD BECAME A MAN (Jesus Christ) AND OFFERED HIMSELF AS A SUBSTITUTE PAYMENT FOR OUR SINS.

(6)   ALL WHO RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST, AND BELIEVE GOD’S PROMISE OF FORGIVNESS AND SUBSTITUTE PAYMENT, ARE FREED FROM DEATH’S PENALTY AND RECEIVE GOD’S LOVE IN THE FORM OF ETERNAL LIFE.

This my friend is the true gospel, the only gospel God authorized to be preached in His Name. Indeed, we can be saved by grace through faith, period! Yet today a false gospel is being promoted that is drawing unsuspecting followers to believe the ancient lie and sin that we are gods, who have either forgotten this, or have lost it and just need to reclaim it. That is the NEW Gospel being taught in the WORD/FAITH MOVEMENT.

If you watch any Christian broadcasting, you most likely will be confronted with a dynamic TV personality and a large audience. This TV "preacher" will most likely be one of the new WORD FAITH MOVEMENT teachers that permeate the airwaves spouting a message that is being accepted in droves by multitudes. In fact, the Word Faith Movement now has become the most popular and accepted teaching of the "Charismatic" emphasis of the faith ever to touch the lives of people worldwide. It is estimated that tens of millions of people every day are watching and thirstily "drinking in" the wild new claims, the absurd personal experiences, and the myriad of false teachings of this new breed of teacher. With their seductive claims, we are witnessing what I believe may be the "ruination" of the testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ on earth, unless true Bible-believing Christians, from all denominations, do something about it!

First of all, who’s involved in this WORD FAITH MOVEMENT? Well to begin it is a new teaching and emphasis that has departed from "the faith once delivered to the saints." Today Word-Faith teachers are numerous and popular. Men like Kenneth Hagin, Sr. and Jr., Kenneth Copeland, Charles Capps, Robert Tilton, Frederick K.C. Price, Benny Hinn, Paul Yonggi Cho, Paul Crouch, John Avanzini, Marylyn Hickey, Morris Cerullo, and Jerry Savelle are but a few of the most popular teachers of this NEW movement within professing Christianity today. These men and women, with the help of television broadcasting networks such as the Trinity Broadcasting Network beam out by cable and satellite, a false gospel from their new "kingdom of the cults," that is gross heresy of the worst kind. The WORD FAITH MOVEMENT, if we have to give it a foundational beginning has its present day roots in the teachings of Kenneth Hagin, Sr. who is the "father," of its popular and lucrative acceptance today. The flagship Church, the Rhema Bible Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma that espouses its teachings is led by Kenneth Hagin Sr.’s son. The errors of the WORD FAITH MOVEMENT are well documented and considered "serious heresy," even by responsible charismatic leaders today. Now you may well ask, "what exactly is this message, and why is it wrong?" For simplicity sake, the Word Faith Movement’s message can be outlined as follows:  The WORD FAITH MOVEMENT TEACHES …

1. THE HUMAN MIND AND TONGUE CONTAINS A SUPERNATURAL ABILITY OR POWER. These teachers proclaim that the very words one may speak can harvest or harness a "divine force," that can heal, produce wealth, bring success in anything and in other ways, influence or control even the environment. According to the Word Faith teachers, God is obligated to automatically respond to accomplish and obey any literal "words" uttered in this faith by believers knowing this truth. Frederick K.C. Price like the others states: "God has created the universe by speaking it into existence. He has given that same ability to you in word form. A second popular teaching that comes forth is…

2. EVERY WORD-FAITH BELIEVER IS ACTUALLY A GOD OR A POTENTIAL GOD. Word faith teachers tell their followers they are unique beings who are in the "God-class," and thus become workers of the supernatural, able to supernaturally perform anything they wish according to their "faith." Kenneth Hagin says, "Man was created on terms of equality with God…he lives on terms equal with God." " The believer is called Christ, that’s who we are, we’re Christ!" Charles Capps says, "Adam was an exact duplication of God’s kind!" Morris Cerullo says, "…you’re not looking at Morris Cerullo you’re looking at God. You’re looking at Jesus!" Robert Tilton says, "The Spirit of God is upon me the same way the Spirit of God was upon the Lord Jesus Christ." Friends, this is not an isolated case of a slip of a tongue. The Word Faith Movement claims that its followers are little-gods. However, true Christianity NEVER teaches us that we are either equal to God or Jesus Christ or even a part of the Godhead! This teaching emanates from the underworld, and is propagated clearly by the metaphysical Cults. Now a third teaching that comes forth is…

3. GOD GIVES HIS ANOINTED TEACHERS, SPECIAL REVELATIONS THAT REVEAL HIS ONGOING TEACHINGS. Every Word-faith teacher "claims," God speaks to them by special revelation and has given them the newly revealed truths to bring to His people. Men like Kenneth Hagin Sr.,& Jr. Kenneth Copeland, Charles Capps, Robert Tilton, Benny Hinn and the others ¾ all claim to receive regular physical or spiritual appearances of God the Father, Jesus Christ and or angels to personally instruct them in this newly revealed faith. In Jerry Sevelle’s Prosperity Series, we are told: "The revelation knowledge in this set was given to Brother Sevelle supernaturally by God." Robert Tilton claims, "God directed me by the Holy Spirit to write certain things to you…I have learned on Him for every word." Charles Capps boasted, " The Word of the Lord came to me saying…" Every single teacher in this cultic faith movement proclaims special revelation from God. This friend is one of the marks of a cult. Now here’s a fourth error promoted by the WORD FAITH MOVEMENT today…

4. ALL SICKNESS, POVERTY, AND OR LACK OF SUCCESS IS NOT GOD’S WILL FOR FOLLOWERS. Word-faith teachers constantly condemn any and all Christians who suffer any form of disease, deformity, poverty, and or failure in business or life, because God wants them to be healthy and well, and prospering in everything they desire to do. Failure they say, is always due to a "lack of faith, and acceptance" of their messages and teachings.
Robert Tilton says, "Jesus came to deliver humanity from failure and to bring us into success." Kenneth Hagin says, "Christians should have super-prosperity and super-success." "Sickness and disease are of Satan…It is not the will of God for Christians to be ill."
Frederick K.C. Price boasted he doesn’t allow sickness in his home, he has banned it by the word power within him. He further states the reason he drives a Rolls Royce is he is following in the footsteps of Jesus. Friend, these teachers who have step outside the truths of the Bible are nothing short of "hucksters," who under the banner of "Jesus is Lord" are funneling the offerings of their followers into their own pockets to promote their false doctrine of the health, wealth and prosperity Gospel. Now there’s more. We also hear from their lips the teaching that …

5. SPIRIT GUIDES ARE HERE TO ACCOMPLISH FOLLOWERS REQUESTS AND GUIDE THEM INTO ALL NEW TRUTH. Almost all of the Word Faith Movement teachers mentioned today, teach that the angelic world is waiting to serve followers and do their bidding at their "positive-faith" commands. Gloria Copeland and Charles Capps say God revealed to them that each follower has some 40,000 to 72,000 angels assigned to each one to do their bidding and follow their every "faith" command. Frederick K.C. Price again waxes corruptly, "Yes, you are in control! So if man is in control, who no longer has it? God!" Kenneth Hagin says, "Turn your order in! Send the ministering spirits out to get it by saying, ‘Go ministering spirits, and cause the money to come.’" Hagin claims that he gets regular visions and appearances of God, angels and Jesus…he claims at least eight personal visits so far from Jesus. Now continuing along in the false teachings of this cultic movement we discover they teach…

6. SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES AND MANIFESTATIONS ARE TO BE TRUSTED MORE THAN BIBLICAL TEACHINGS OF THE BIBLE AND HISTORIC CHRISTIANITY. Here is where there is the greatest danger, as these false teachers following earlier Charismatic emphases, and the teachings of metaphysical cults, lead their followers away from God’s revealed and lasting truths into new revelations, teachings and strange experiences that contradict the Bible’s plain teachings. When one chooses to depart from that which is revealed in God’s Word to follow new revelatory teachings based on "experiences" ¾ Satanic delusions multiply.
This is the case more so in the Word Faith Movement that any other aberrant religious teaching today. Of course, all of the new WORD FAITH MOVEMENT’S teachings are not new. In fact, they originate from the very source that produced the metaphysical cults today we know as Christian Science, Mormonism, Mind Science or New Thought. These cultic religions are found in these revelations just discussed.

Now these are just some of the major promotions that go on in the public teaching

ministries of the WORD FAITH MOVEMENT. As a result, they lead Christians away from

God’s truth into the realm of sinful error and even Satanic delusion. Actually, the

modern father of the Faith Movement was a man named E. W. Kenyon and the roots of

this man’s earlier teachings may be traced to his personal background in the

metaphysical cults, specifically "New Thought" and "Christian Science." The result

today, is a corrupt mixture of a pinch of biblical truth, mixed with pounds of Satanic

delusion! Yes, even "occult magic" and the "Faith principles" of today’s Word-Faith

teachers are remarkably similar. Now specifically what’s theologically wrong with the

WORD FAITH MOVEMENT? Here in a nutshell is a quick overview of their heretical false

teachings that come forth: THE WORD FAITH MOVEMENT'S FOUR MAJOR HERESIES

ARE:

I. THE DEIFICATION OF MAN - Man they say is a form of God, a metaphysical part of God, and is therefore an exact and true replica of God. But this is Satan’s lie from the Garden of Eden, "you shall be as God." (Gen 3:5; Isa 40:25-26;) Man is promoted at the expense of God's incommunicable attributes. Only God can be God!

II. THE DEMOTION OF GOD & CHRIST - As a result, God is reduced to the stature of a mere subservient man, and Jesus Himself is reduced to a fallen cosmic pawn. The most heretical teaching so far is, that Jesus Christ lost his divinity after the crucifixion and became one in nature with Satan and that Satan dragged Jesus down to Hell and tortured him there. Accordingly, Christ had to be "born again," a God man in Hell to be rescued, can you imagine that? Furthermore, Kenneth Hagin Sr. has taught that Christ, in a special revelation, even denied His own divinity while on earth! Moreover, Hagin claims God is the biggest failure in the Bible." Benny Hinn stated: "Had not the Holy Spirit been with Christ he would have sinned… would never have made it." (Isa.46:9-10; John 1:1,14; Col 1:16-18; Acts 4:12). How disgusting and repulsive a statement to make! Now the third heretical teaching that comes forth is,

III. THE DEIFICATION OF SATAN – Yes, this teaching is found in the Word-Faith Movement that says, Satan is not just a god of this world, but a God who commands Heaven itself and the Godhead is powerless over his control and dominion of the earth. Kenneth Copeland teaches that Jesus was made obedient to Satan, He even took the devil’s nature and was tormented by demons, totally powerless to stop it. He further went on to say "[CHRIST] had to sneak into this world around the god of this world [Satan] that was blocked every way that He could." (Isa. 14:12-15) Unbelievable isn’t it! Fourthly, more heresy comes forth in…

IV. THE DENIAL OF SALVATION BY GRACE - Even this classic and fundamental doctrine of the true Church has been denied within the Movement. Benny Hinn has been documented to say, "Christians confessing they are a sinner saved by grace only insults God with such garbage."

Friends, what I’m telling you is serious business! This is what is essentially going on and

given general approval by the silence of the true professing Church. Networks like Trinity

Broadcasting Network and other Christian communication outlets are now filling the

airwaves with these new Pseudo-Christian cultic teachers. Just because they use the name of

Jesus, just because they operate within the realm of the world of Christianity by having

access to Christian publishers and their outlets, doesn’t make them right and of God!

The consequences of this false WORD FAITH MOVEMENT are serious and alarming. Million

of people, if not tens of millions, are being led astray and away from Bible truth into

"experience-oriented” man-made even satanic beliefs that will take unsuspecting new followers

down to Hell, and true but ignorant Christians, into a life of spiritual harm, defeat and shame

on the Judgment Day of the Lord. I tell you it’s time to stand up and speak out.

So I ask you? Where are God’s Shepherds and voices in light of this? Why are they silent?  I know these are harsh words, and I confess it’s not easy for me to say them because in the midst of all this terrible error and deceit are many good Christian people. But, they need to come out of this wickedness and stand for the "old truths and walk on the old paths wherein is the good way."

May God revive His Church, open our eyes and grant us boldness to stand up against the evil and wicked teachings that are muddying the waters of truth for a needy world. Jesus Christ is God, the only true and sovereign omnipotent God. We must bow to His Kingship, Lordship, and accept His gift of salvation by way of the cross. Satan has never ruled over Jesus in this life or eternity, nor shall he. Our God is Jesus Christ, king of kings and Lord of Lords and to Him every knee shall bow one day and forevermore. Amen.
